Summer!!! I know school isn’t out yet, and the summer solstice (the official first day of summer) is even further away, but I’ve always viewed Memorial Day weekend as the “real” start of summer. So even though it was on the gray and cool side last weekend, my family and I enjoyed cooking burgers on the grill in the back yard, anticipating what summer will bring.

So, I thought it would be a good time to summarize what summer will look like here at FPCB. The worship schedule will remain the same: 9 AM contemporary service in the Kirk Center, and 10:30 AM traditional service in the Sanctuary (Except for June 24, a very special day, when we will celebrate the long and faithful leadership of The Rev. Keith Brown. See more information below.)

“Lemonade on the Lawn” will be a little different this summer. It starts on July 1 and will be held in the back of the church, outside the Kirk Center from 9:45 – 10:20 AM. Our hope is that the people leaving the early service and those coming in for the later service will meet up there for lemonade, treats, and conversation. There will also be a much simpler Hospitality Time in the North Link after the 10:30 am service.

This Sunday, June 3, will be the last day of Sunday School until fall, giving us the opportunity to experiment with various ways to make both worship services more intergenerational. For one, if you have children or youth who would be interested in serving as readers or in some other roles in worship, please let me know via email or at the church office (610-867-5865, x213).

The regular choir will have a rest, but we will continue the tradition of a “pickup summer choir” a couple times a month. Those dates will be announced shortly, but if you are interested in singing, you simply need to show up in the Choir Room at 9:45 AM to rehearse before the service on Sunday morning.

Keep an eye out for several special community events. The first of those, on Wednesday, June 13, will be an Intergenerational Game Night — a great opportunity not only to meet other people in the church, but their friends and family whom they invite to join us. Think about someone you can bring along! There will also be some special adult education events throughout the summer.

Finally, but importantly; the church building will be closed on Fridays from June 1 through August 31, aside from the Preschool wing, the weekly men’s group meeting, and a few special events. The concentrated work days will allow us to focus on some specific projects.

Looking forward to a wonderful summer as we continue to worship and serve Christ together!

Grace and Peace,
J.C.
