This Advent, FPCB lifts up the theme of homecomings, emphasizing “home” in its definition as refuge, and sanctuary.

The second annual Advent Spiral Walk elicits memories of homecomings that evoke an authentic sense of personal belonging, where God’s love dwells abundantly. This year’s event will be offered in person, in the church’s Kirk Center.

Luke 1:39-55 offers up just such a homecoming. After encountering the angel, Mary retreats to Elizabeth and Zechariah’s home to digest the incredible news. She seeks refuge – physical safety and emotional protection and finds a home there for her heart’s new call to the birth of Christ.

With the city of Bethlehem’s Luminaria Night as a backdrop (right), enter the Kirk Center in quiet contemplation.

Five stations reflect on homecomings dedicated to the themes of our ancestors, communities, personal guides, earth, silence, and self. These remembrances of past connections, wisdom texts, and supports remind us of those guides that have supported our own call to birth Christ in the world.

The Advent Walk hopes to expand your sense of refuge and sanctuary as we prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ. If wandering far from home, may you experience a coming home— wherever home is found.

All are welcome. Everyone must be properly masked; watch for the event signs.
