The Mission Committee has become a partner with Lazarus House, a program of the Lehigh Conference of Churches. Lazarus House is an affordable place for newly released people to rebuild their lives after prison. It has proved to be successful in providing affordable housing, developing supportive relationships and reducing the number of people returning to prison. Read more about the program here.
There are many ways we can support this endeavor. Volunteers are needed in the following areas:
- Finance– helping to make budgets and form repayment plans
- Healthcare– helping people find proper care and navigate the Medicaid system
- Literacy – tutoring for GED, helping to improve reading skills, and assisting with job applications or resumes
- Advocate – prisoners on parole have tight schedules which do not allow them to make the connections they need to succeed
