Using your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to make direct gifts

If you are 70 ½ years old, you can authorize direct transfers from your IRA to our church to fulfill your pledge or gift. A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) automatically applies to your IRA required minimum distribution (RMD) for the tax year in which you make the gift. Such a gift could provide a tax benefit and help you avoid an increase in your Medicare premiums and future RMDs (both of which depend on taxable income within an IRA at year-end).
You could use a QCD to fulfill your 2017 pledge or even pre-pay your 2018 pledge in part or in full. To make a QCD you will need to give your IRA administrator this information: make the gift to the Presbytery of Lehigh, 710 N. Cedar Crest Boulevard, Allentown PA  18014. The Presbytery office telephone is 610-391-9020.
We will provide you with an acknowledgement letter upon receipt of your gift. Since the companies such as Vanguard, Fidelity, or banks do not always provide the name of the donor, please inform Presbytery or Linda Robertson (610-865-2087) when authorizing your gift.
