Rev. Dr. mark Crumpler
associate pastor for worship and formation
Before coming to First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, Mark Crumpler’s vocational journey has included serving as a hospital chaplain and teaching Bible at the college level in both full-time and adjunct positions. His greatest love, however,, aside from being a dad and a husband, is the pastoral work of shepherding and leading God’s people in the local church. Growing up in the home of a pastor, Mark can’t remember a time when the church was not an anchoring presence in his life. Mark’s pastoral ministry is grounded in a desire to blend the life of the mind with the love of God. He discovered a love for theological study in an introductory college course in Christian doctrine. After receiving his B.A. in English from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, Mark did his M.Div and Ph.D work at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Mark’s great joy in ministry is the unfolding of biblical truth in a way that allows people to meet God in life changing ways.

PASTOR OF MISSION & OUTREACH
Manuela's preparation for service as Minister of Word and Sacrament includes extensive experience both on the mission field and at home. She is multilingual which includes—as she herself expresses it—"speaking several languages, but also conveying the faith in many different ways." Manuela Kauer is a woman of deep personal faith and wisdom. She has been a servant leader who has discerned God's call for her life in a ministry marked by personal sacrifice and faithful, joyful obedience to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She is passionate and committed to serving God's precious children throughout the world.
Born in Spain, Manuela and her family moved to Switzerland where she went to high school and then received a BA degree in Business. Later coming to the United States, she received a Master of Business Administration from Eastern University in St. Davids, PA, followed a few years later by a Master of Divinity from Palmer Seminary in Philadelphia. She recently completed her Doctorate of Ministry in Leadership of Missional Church Renewal, at Palmer Seminary.
Manuela, her husband, Juan, and daughters, Laura and Camila, served during 15 years as missionaries of our denomination in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There she carried multiple tasks as the Executive Director of a small Christian organization, then as the Coordinator of Community Development in the same organization, the Coordinator of PCUSA Young Adult Volunteers in Argentina and Uruguay, and finally held two pastoral positions in local churches in Buenos Aires. She also served as the Interim Pastor of United Presbyterian Church in Pottsville, PA before coming to our church.
She feels blessed to have a wonderful husband who is also deeply involved in the community as a Case Manager for a non-profit organization in Allentown with many low-income clients—many of them Spanish speaking families. The Kauers continue to be in contact with mission partners they worked with and are passionate to bring the good news in words and deed wherever they are.
The whole family enjoys outdoor activities, reading, traveling, discovering new places and building relationships with people of different cultures.

DIRECTOR OF PRESCHOOL
To Andie Barbehenn, the most important aspect of her role as Director of the Preschool is to teach children that God loves them, that they are special to Him and that they are safe and loved here. Andie and her staff strive to create a place where children can explore, learn, ask questions and grow, while developing social skills and having fun. Because the majority of children come from the community at large, the pre-school provides an active ministry to those outside our church. She is filled with thanksgiving for the opportunity to spend her days in ministry to children. Born and raised in upstate New York, Andie earned certification in elementary education before coming to Bethlehem and joining the church 35 years ago. She has worked for the preschool for over 28 years, most of them as Director, and is a member of the Chancel Choir. She and her husband, Frank, are the parents of three grown children and five grandchildren.
