Season of Prayer IV Week Four

PRAY THAT THE FPCB COMMUNITY ACTS AS CHRIST WOULD ACT-AT WORK, AT HOME, AT WORSHIP, AT SCHOOL, IN ALL RELATIONSHIPS

 

As Christians, we find ourselves in different places on our journey with God.
Some are rejoicing in how far God has brought them, or in how God has come to
them. Some are quite discouraged, feeling a sense of loss and loneliness.
Others are lost this very moment, trying to find their way.  

As a community of faith, we believe that Christ claims us, and that we are invited
to claim him. We believe that God enters into relationship with his people, and that
we are invited to converse with him. Therefore, we come again to a Season of
Prayer, believing that conversation with God makes a difference in our own
hearts. 

Scriptures, songs, and prayers will be provided to you in this six-week Season of
Prayer.  And as you read them, engage deeply with God, expecting and allowing
the Holy Spirit to transform us to be more and more in line with God's thoughts
and ways.


SCRIPTURE VERSES

GALATIANS 5:22-26 (NIV)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

JOHN 13:34-35 (NIV) 
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

MATTHEW 7:12 (NIV)
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

EPHESIANS 4:29 (NIV)

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

MATTHEW 7:1-5 (NIV)
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

MATTHEW 18:15-17
If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.

TITUS 3:10-11
As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned.


PRAYER

Sovereign Lord, Your Word teaches us that love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control are fruits of the Spirit. When we interact with each other in accordance with these, it is a powerful testimony that Your Holy Spirit is working within us. You also gave us a new commandment--to love one another as You loved us--and You sent Your Son Jesus to model Your perfect love. We know that You want us to treat others with this same love, and it is easy for us to treat others this way if they think the same way that we do. Even the pagans do that. It is not always easy to treat others with love if they disagree with us, ridicule our beliefs, or if we perceive that they look down on us or judge us. We are often quick to recognize and point out when someone treats us poorly but fail to recognize the hurts that we cause. Lord, we pray that our actions will be pleasing in Your sight and that they will bring glory to You in everything we do, whether at school, work, home or church. We ask this in the strong name of Jesus.
