Second Monday in Advent

Now is the time to prepare for the Coming of the Messiah this Advent Season.  Meet us here each day of Advent where we will be posting a blog written by members of First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem,  representing an intergenerational sampling of contributors as they reflect on the scripture selections from the Daily Lectionary Advent readings from the Book of Common Worship. LECTIONARY READING: Amos 7:1–9; Revelation 1:1–8; Matthew 22:23–33

Take a few minutes today to reflect and journal on the Lectionary reading today.

1. Reflections on Amos 7:1–9:
Have you ever prayed like Amos, asking God to “stop” (v. 7)?

2. Reflections on Revelation 1:1–8:
How is Jesus described?  Are these verses comforting to you?  Why, or why not?

3. Reflections on Matthew 22:23–33:
What does Jesus tell us about God and about the resurrection?

Prayer: Lord God, as we stretch our minds to take in the panoramic view of human history—from creation to Christ’s return—we pray “thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” May our lives reflect your lovingkindness and care to others. Amen.
