NEWS FROM OUR SENIOR PASTOR

April 21, 2017

He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

What a wonderful celebration we had on Sunday. We declared the truth that generations have declared before us. We declared the truth that shapes every part of who we are as a community of believers.

There are so many pictures in my mind as I thank God for all that happened in our midst.

  • Families gathering around the flowered cross together for pictures and fellowship –-clearly a new tradition for our church!
  • The choir surrounding the congregation singing the truth of the Resurrection.
  • The Kirk Center and the Sanctuary overflow areas used in both of our early services.
  • Our staff team printing more bulletins because we ran out.
  • An intergenerational band and singers in the Kirk Center-–on an expanded stage so they would all fit.
  • The choir ending the service with the Hallelujah Chorus followed by Tom Goeman beautifully playing the Widor Toccata.
  • Hundreds of rocks given away joyfully by our wonderful team of ushers and greeters

It is a privilege every week, but especially on Easter, to see so many people using their gifts to the glory of God. Sunday, we celebrated THE truth of our faith: Jesus was crucified, dead and buried and then on the third day he came out of the grave.  He is Alive!

And this weekend, we get to declare it all over again.  Sunday, we will have a look at the Man of the Mulligan, the King of Do-Overs, Peter. On Easter morning, the angel singled out Peter when he talked to the women at the empty tomb:

"Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him.
But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you."

This weekend, we will listen in on that encounter between the risen Jesus and Peter.  We will see that it isn’t shock and awe. It isn’t shame and scolding. Jesus is the Lord of the second chance. That’s what Peter needs. That’s what I need. That’s what you need.

Can’t wait to worship with my fellow people of the second chance.

Your pastor and friend,

Dr. Marnie Crumpler
Senior Pastor
