NEWS FROM OUR SENIOR PASTOR

October 13, 2017

I have heard from so many of you this week. You had the same experience I did. You were overwhelmed by our joyful ECO installation celebration. It was exciting to look back and remember God’s faithfulness over our church’s 142 years. But, even more exciting, is for us to dream about all God has in store for us. It was an honor to kneel with Mark at the front of the Sanctuary, as many pastors have done before us, to be prayed over. It was powerful to stand with Mark and Beth and Manuela to answer the ordination questions again. And I admit I had to clear my throat more than once to get through asking all of you officers of the church, standing together, your installation questions. It is a true privilege to serve alongside you leaders.

Both Jim Singleton and John Crosby added so much to our celebration. Our Heritage Presbytery Moderator, Barry Gray and Stated Clerk, John Bard and others from the presbytery were there to celebrate with us. The music was glorious. I am grateful for all the musicians and ending with “The Church’s One Foundation—put the focus on the one who redeems us and leads us. And… the reception. I am so grateful for Marcia Brown and all of the Special Events Ministry for serving us and making the celebration so grand. Thanks to everyone who baked—those homemade baked goods get me every time. Thanks to each person who had a role over the weekend, including our amazing staff—who went over the top with bulletins and set-up and administrative planning.

I often tell couples who are getting married, “Have a great wedding reception. Make it a great party and celebration. But, great marriages are made by the work that comes after the party.” All our celebrating—which is important and good—gets us ready for all that God has in store for us moving forward. And I couldn’t be more excited. God is powerfully at work amongst us.

Two weeks ago, I laid out 5 initiatives that are imperative for us as we live into our mission to make disciples, in this season of our church. Here they are—We will recommit to:

Investing in the Next Generation

Reviving our Group Life

Practicing Radical Hospitality

Encouraging Each Member’s Mission

                                                                  Getting the Word Out

If you missed the vision sermon, you can watch it by clicking here.  Over the next year, you will be hearing specific ways that you can be a part of these initiatives.

This weekend, we launch a new series, Heart Condition: The Interior Life of a Leader.  The central verse of the series comes from 1 Samuel 16:7,

The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the
outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

Over the next week's we will be exploring the life of David, who is called the "man after God's own heart." David's heart can be a powerful mirror into ours.

Thankful for all God has done... and anticipating all God will do, I am grateful to be

Your pastor and friend,

Dr. Marnie Crumpler
Senior Pastor
