Parents want their kids to grow spiritually. But even involved parents aren’t always sure how to do it. “Where do I start? How do I find resources that really work? Am I covering what I need to? Are my kids growing spiritually? How can I tell?” Many parents know about the responsibility God gave them to raise their kids spiritually as described in Deuteronomy 11:18–20, But parents can feel unequipped to spiritually train their kids or uncertain about where to get practical resources to guide them. They look to the community of Christian believers, the church, to support their role as their children's primary spiritual instructors. Children’s ministries leaders already recognize that one or two hours a week in church can’t replace what should be happening in the home. These leaders are in a key position to partner with parents to reach their common goals for the kids. In Transforming Children into spiritual champions, George Barna, founder of the Barna Group, lists three indicators that identify a church that is successful in their children’s ministries. First is the “widespread involvement of the parents in the spiritual development of the children.” Second is “that the church is strategically equipping parents to help children develop spiritually. And the third is seeing “elements of transformation in children’s lives—not the mere recitation of facts, but lifestyle transitions that suggest a deeper renovation of the heart and spirit.” Raising Up Spiritual Champions newsletter is a practical tool that needs no preparation. Anybody with preschool or elementary-age kids can use it to raise kids spiritually in a natural way, week by week, day by day—all designed to assist parents in guiding their kids to become more like Christ. |
