THIS WEEKEND AT FPCB

NEWS FROM OUR SENIOR PASTOR
November 17, 2017

Two years ago, I was your guest preacher.  I had no idea that the people I saw out in the congregation that weekend in all those services would be people that I would know and love.  I had no idea that God would give me and Mark the privilege of being your pastors and the joy of doing life and ministry with you. I am so grateful for our journey together and can't wait to see all that God has in store for us.

One of the clues I have about our bright future together is your generosity. I am so happy to report that our 2018 commitments continue to come in strong.  We are now $300,000 ahead of where we were at the same time last year.  As I said this past weekend, your strong response will allow us to move forward with the 5 initiatives I laid out this fall. Your strong response will allow the session to plan and budget for a very exciting 2018.  If you have already made your commitment, thank you.

If you have not, would you do that this weekend!  You can bring your pledge card to worship or you can make your commitment online right now by clicking here.  We hope to hear from everyone as we move forward together.

We are on the edge of what pastors affectionately call "Thanksmas" season. You are making your plans for food and tables, perhaps for traveling and parties.  This weekend, a different table will be set for us- the table of the Lord's Supper.  We will take Thanksgiving Communion together in all of the services.  Mark will preach in the Sanctuary and in the Kirk Center and will wrap up our sermon series, Heart Condition, with David: A Forgiven Heart. I'm praying that God will use this weekend to get us all ready for all the tables we will sit at over the upcoming holiday season.

We will also meet together on Thanksgiving Day at 10 a.m. for our annual Thanksgiving Worship Service.  We will hear witnesses of God's faithfulness as we worship the one who deserves our thanks and praise. Afterwards, there will be a thanksgiving meal. Click here to register for the meal or for more information.

Speaking of the holiday season, if you have children or grandchildren, now is the time to sign them up to be a part of our Christmas Eve Family Services.  Last year's service was jam packed, so this year we will actually have two family services. Along with the choir, our children's ministry is inviting children to be a part of bringing the Christmas story to life complete with sheep and a donkey.  We need some adults too - so if you have always wanted to be a wiseman, now's your chance.  You can click here to sign up.  I can't wait for Christmas.

Finally, you know by now that acclaimed author, Eric Metaxas, will be with us this Saturday evening, November 18 at 7pm in the Sanctuary.  He will speak to us about his new biography on Martin Luther.  This will not be a dry theological lecture--Eric is not only a gifted writer-- he is an excellent and entertaining communicator who will bring Luther to life.  He will also sign books after speaking.  Books will be available for sale. It is an honor to welcome Eric Metaxas.  You can click here to learn more about Eric.

Happy almost Thanksgiving.  I am so thankful for you
