Networking for Life Ministry

The Next Networking for Life Event
Tuesday, March 6, in Room 400.
Refreshments: 6:30 p.m.; speaker: 7–8 p.m.; networking: 9 p.m

We hear that recruiters are using social media to find candidates for open positions, but how exactly are they doing that, and what does that mean for job seekers and employers? Our March meeting will feature a presentation on using social media such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and blogs to source, qualify and present candidates.

The speaker will address questions such as:  How, specifically, do recruiters find candidates using social media? What is seen as a positive and what is seen as a negative in someone’s social presence? How do you know what “key words” will make you more likely to be found by a recruiter? How can you develop ongoing relationships with recruiters in your industry and target companies? This presentation is relevant for those who are actively seeking new opportunities, and those who are employed and want attract the best employees.

Topic: Using Social Media to Find the Best Jobs and Best Employees
Speaker: Bill Glose, Social Media Consultant and Talent Acquisition Sales Manage

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” – Gal 6:10 NIV

As you may recall, during 2010 a small dedicated volunteer team at First Pres, with the blessing and support of the senior staff, launched a new ministry call “Networking for Life”. The ongoing goal of this ministry is to connect people with people and make networking with others a way of life within our church, not just while the job market is down.

Throughout the year a series of meetings were held to help people as they searched for new employment opportunities. Topics ranged from self assessment and resumes, to interviewing and negotiating an offer.

This year the team has decided to take a slightly different approach in order to increase the interest for a greater segment of the congregational population. Instead of being solely focused on support for the unemployed and underemployed, a series of meetings will be held with guest speakers addressing such diverse topics as Social Media: Benefits & Risks in the Workplace, Entrepreneurship, Staying Strong in Tough Times, Technology Trends and Business Ethics. Of course, helping those in needs remains a priority, so we will continue to seek ways and people who might be able to help ease the burden of those in job transition.

In addition to the guest speaker, each event will allow a time for networking with others, which, as stated above, is a continual goal for the ministry. The meetings will be held roughly every 4-6 weeks, typically in the parlor and light refreshments will be available.

Please look for the schedule in upcoming emails and periodic posters around the church. It is critical that we learn more about one another to remain healthy as a church community and to grow personally within the body of Christ. Please join any or all 2012 Networking for Life events.
